Delirium is an adverse consequence that often hits elderly patients hard during a lengthy hospital stay. However, delirium is often failed to be recognized as a medical emergency and mistaken for dementia. As nurses, we must recognize and understand the different between delirium and dementia in order to adequately care for, treat, and advocate for our patients.
