All about Federalists By Grace Hudak
00:06
Alexander Hamilton and his supporters were named the Federalists.
00:06
Federalists supported a strong central government, as well as the Constitution
00:07
They also believed in states/people having less power
00:11
Federalists advocated for things such as a central bank, passage of excise laws, and maintenance of a tariff system.

Hamilton Vs. Jefferson
00:19
What happened?
00:20
Who were they?
00:25
Both Jefferson and Hamilton helped lead to the creation of political parties. Washington appointed Jefferson as secretary of state, and Hamilton secretary of treasury. Washington chose both of them to be his advisors because of their differences in opinion.

00:32
Washington didn't want political parties because he knew they would cause division and destroy the United States. He specifically stated this in his Farewell Address.
00:38
Federalists vs. Republicans
00:39
They both believe in strong central government Both care about money,  Republicans care about lower taxes Federalists wanted banks Federalists didn't have to worry about current topics For example abortion and gun laws Republicans deal with current topics
00:43
Political parties have always caused division in our nation. Washington didn't want them because he knew how much division they would cause. The Federalists were the first political party, and caused all the division in the  nation.

The first example of political parties causing division is the court case Roe v. Wade. For decades, aborition laws have been very controverisal. Republicans push for stricter laws (pro life), while Democrats are more pro choice
00:56
This probably has caused the most destruction in the Us concerning women

Another example of political parties dividing the nation would be the time period during the civil rights movement and civil war. In the North, The Republicans wanted to help slaves. The South was filled with so much racism including the KKK and governor Wallace. This caused a huge divide in our nation because so many people didn't want to agree on the same thing.

One last example of political parties dividing the nation is FDR and the New Deal. He proposed higher taxes to the rich, but there was a lot of opposition. Taft was his biggest opposer. This caused a lot of division because everybody wanted different things.
