Climate Change ( AKA Global Warming ) is theongoing increase of the average temperature of our atmosphere due to increasing levels ofgreenhouse gases.
A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs infraredradiation.
What has climate change done to our Earth?
Melted ice caps - sea levels rise
Increased ocean temperatures - coral reefs die
Changed weather patterns - crops can no longer grow
Destroyed colder habitats - species die out
How can we prevent further damage?
We can do many things to prevent furthergreenhouse gas emissions. Some of these include: cutting down of the usage of cars and other modes of transport that use diesel/oil; using more renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar power; buying locally produced food.
In all honesty - everyone is! Every single day we use something that, somewhere along the line of production, greenhouse gasses were emitted and fossil fuels were used. Yes,large industrial companies tend to use up more fossil fuels than the average person, but in some way we have all contributed to climate change, no matter if it was an accident or on purpose. So instead of blaming someone else, help fight the crisis by cutting down on the consumption of over-seas produce, or start walking to work!
Who is responsible for climate change?
So how can we help now?
In order to stop the situation from getting worse, we need to put an end to unnecessary plastic usage and waste product, as well as cutting down on deforestation. Plants (especially trees) are vital if we want to overcome this issue once and for all. This is because they are NATURAL CARBON STORES - they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and use itto release products such as oxygen. So instead of cutting down these trees, we need to start planting more of them! If we all plant one tree per day, and let it grow, over 7 billion trees would be planted per day!How about that for combating excess carbon dioxide!
