Hi! I'm Amanda. I started my journey at CNM in 2003
00:14
I was scared. I thought I wasn't smart enough to go to college
00:18
I didn't know anyone who went to college.
00:20
I met my advisor Mrs. Kirby, and she helped me start!
00:25
So many buildings, new people, I was not confident.
00:27
Walking through campus, I was scared again.
00:31
Where is I building?
00:33
What does T R mean??
00:35
Do I have my schedule??
00:37
Am I too old to be here?
00:39
My Math 0850 teacher helped me see
00:44
That I was smart all along, and could achieve my goals
00:48
I celebrated passing my classes my first term!
00:56
The homework was hard and I spent a lot of time in the tutor center.
01:02
Although I was working hard, I still found time to play with my daughter.
01:08
She didn't know that when I was really tired, I thought of her and kept going
01:16
The next couple years were filled with working, school and raising a family
01:26
I met so many new friends in class and working in groups
01:40
All the teachers I met challenged me,
and cheered me on to graduate!
01:46
When I had my son, I needed a another job.
01:48
I saw that I could work on campus as a student employee
01:53
I worked as a reading tutor with so many amazing people.......
01:58
I met so many helpful CNM employees while I worked...
01:60
and made life long friends
02:03
Working, going to school and raising a family
was not easy......
02:08
Sometimes life gets really hard,
and we have to choose to stay in school
02:14
In 2008, After finals one day, I was not feeling well.
I walked to the CNM Health Clinic and
found out I was pregnant with my 3rd child!
02:40
I got a job at CNM in February 2010
at the Montoya campus working with
the faculty.
02:42
I was surrounded by amazing instructors,
who encouraged me to go back to school.
02:50
For the next years,
I went back and forth to school
02:50
It was getting more
difficult to manage
with my kids growing up.
02:55
And now, I will finally graduate
with my Bachelor of Science degree on December 11th!!!!
I would like to thank all the teachers who helped
me, my coworkers who supported me,
and the students who motivated me.
Most of all, my kids who went on this journey with me.
