Developing Labs to Facilitate
Home Care Innovation and
Entrepreneurship
in the Danube Region
00:09
The D-Care Labs project,
financed under the Danube Transnational Programme,
focused on the establishment of 9 sustainable regional innovation structures called D-Care Labs.
The regional Labs enabled the creation of innovative home care services and products
in 9 Danube region countries.
00:18
The regional D-Care Lab innovation programmes
offered social entrepreneurs
and intrapreneurs (social service providers)
a space for developing practical and
marketable solutions with the support of
various stakeholders (innovation experts,
beneficiary groups, public authorities).
00:21
In this way, new innovative solutions better
addressed the needs of home care
beneficiaries (older people,
people with disabilities,
children with special needs),
and enable them to stay in their
familiar surroundings.
00:30
The regional D-Care Labs offered knowledge and support to lab participants for the creation of innovative home care services and products.
00:33
205 social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs
were qualified by the 9 D-Care Lab programs.
00:35
In total, 57 home care innovations
were developed in the pilot phase.
00:36
About 200 social investors were identified by
the D-Care Labs partnership. Social investors
are key for the sustainability of
regional innovation programs
and the home care innovations.

What we noted
00:43
There is a need to develop a variety of different solutions from support systems for informal caregivers (e.g., recognition of work through payments or better working conditions that enable to combine job and family care, or enable more daycare services) to professional outpatient services and voluntary initiatives (e.g., neighborhood help) and digital applications (e.g., for emergency cases).
00:49
There is a lack of support structures to create new innovations in the field of home care.
The first step was made on our side by establishing regional D-Care Labs.
00:54
Social innovation in the home care sector is crucial, as it enables the development of new and innovative solutions to address the challenges caregivers and care recipients face.
Social innovation can lead to creating more effective, affordable, and sustainable home care models that improve the quality of life for caregivers and care recipients alike.
