The Democratic Republican Party was created by Thomas Jefferson and
James Madison. The main focus of the political party is that they wanted a
weaker central government unlike the federalists. They believed in things like
political equality, and expansionism. A lot of the party was focused more on the
common people like the farmers.
Washington chose to have both political parties in his cabinet. He did this
because it gave him and the government an argument from both sides.
Washington knew that both Hamilton and Jefferson were brilliant men, so
he needed to have them in his cabinet. Also, it gives the people who
support their specific party a representative in the government.
Washington's view on political parties
Washington did not want political parties because he believed that these parties
will divide the nation. He also believed that political parties would end up slowing
down the government. He believed political parties would slow down the creation of
laws because one party would put in a law, and the other party would get rid of the
law when they have a representative take office. He also believed that the branches
of government would not be able to use their full power.
Democratic-Republican compared to today
The democratic party of today can be compared to the democratic -republican
party. The democratic party today focuses a lot on the people. Democrats support
labor unions and equal opportunity for all the people. Democratic-republicans
supported the common people like the farmers. So both of these parties supported
the working people a lot. One big difference between the two were that the
democratic-republican believed that the farmers should run the country. The
democratic party today is not focused on stuff like that.
Political Parties Today
Political parties can be both good and bad for the nation. In some
Instances political parties can cause division in the US. These parties
can cause division between the people who believe in different things.
With this being said there are some events in history where political
parties came together and got the people to come together in unison.
3 Times when political parties came together
911 - Being one of the United State's most tragic events, everyone was obligated
to come together to get past this tragedy. President Bush said that there are no
democrats or republicans right now, just Americans.
Pearl Harbor - When the Japanese bombed pearl harbor, the people in the United
States came together. Many people of different political parties all put that aside and
joined into the war, to fight in WW2
Civil War - The civil war was an example of when political parties split the nation. In
the south the democrats wanted slavery and in the north the republicans did not.
Because of this a war broke out between the Democratic South and Republican North.
