Electromagnets are a different from permanent magnets. Electromagnets are made of coils of wire with electricity passing through them. Moving charges create magnetic fields, so when the coils of wire in an electromagnet have an electric current passing through them, the coils behave like a magnet. To test the principle, a project called Electromagnet Sorting Pen has been made.

Equipment 1. 0.5m of Coil       7. Battery clip 2. Pencil            8. Battery 3. Cutter           9. Tape 4. Glue gun 5. Nail 6. Three-way switch

1. A 0.5m coil is wrapped from end to end around the nail and sealed with a glue gun to prevent movement.

2. The end of the pencil, which is made of wood, is cut with a cutter.

3. A nail wrapped in a coil is adhered to the pencil with adhesive. Tape is also used to prevent the nail from moving.

4. The battery is placed on the battery clip and secured with tape to the pencil.

5. The positive wire on the battery clip is connected to the end of the coil wrapped around the nail.

6. The other end of the coil and the negative wire of the battery clip are connected to the three-way switch.

7. The switch is attached to the pencil using tape so that the project product looks neater.
