00:08
The Federalist Party was one of the first political parties in the US. It  was founded in 1791.
00:12
-Main members were Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and John Adams
00:22
Main Goals/Beliefs:
00:25
- The party called for a strong central government to protect individual rights and the freedom of citizens
00:28
- Promotion of economic growth and the creation of the National Bank to control inflation levels by limiting the amount of $ the government issued.
00:34
Goals Cont.
00:35
- These goals were mainly supported by those who wished for more federal power, not state power.
00:37
- They wanted diplomatic  harmony with Britain for  stability and trade.
00:39
- Strong gov. under judicial executive branches
00:44
Washington chose advocates from both parties to stay neutral, and hear from both sides. He also wanted them to be able to work together within the government  and not be divided.

Washington- No Parties
00:51
-Washington did not want political parties because he believed it would make citizens see those of opposite sides as enemies, not fellow citizens. -He thought it would create division within the cabinet like Jefferson and Hamilton.

Democratic v. Federalist
01:01
Differences: *Democrats want an election by the people, with democracy as the main form of government and they vote for candidates. *Federalists preferred an indirect election, where a panel would most likely vote for the candidate as one group.

Democrat v. Federalist
01:08
Similarities: *Democrats and Federalists both thought/think that the federal gov. should have power of some policies, especially economically.

Political Parties divide us-
01:19
- Jim Crow Laws- segregation divided our country to be North v. South, which also came Democrats v. then Republicans. The country was at a war with itself. - January 6th- the attack on the capital divided the Democrats v. Republicans even more. The  protesters showed their anger towards a  Democratic candidate winning over Pres. Trump.
01:22
- Redistricting- the lines drawn for voting areas have brought superiority to areas within states/counties.
