Folate (Folic acid) is the natural form of the vitamin B9. Note: when folic acid breaks down in the body it is converted into folate!!!

What is Folic Acid?
01:00
You need folic acid! It is so important because...
01:02
helps tissues grow, helps the cells work as well as metabolises amino acids necessary for cell division. Folic acid is required for the body to make DNA and RNA - carrying genetic instructions for the makeup of all organisms. Us humans CAN’T make folate but this is required in our diets making it an essential nutrient! Not only does Folate makes healthy red blood cells but it is critical for your body during rapid growth periods, like pregnancy or going through puberty.
01:08
Also helps - prevent and treat folate deficiency anaemia - helps avoid developmental problems for unborn babies - breaks down the amino acid HOMOCYSTEINE
01:16
It is 35% better absorbed in our bodies through supplements , it is added in to cereals, breads etc! Foods that also provide us with this: Whole grains Green leafy vegetables Seafood Eggs Peanuts Fresh fruits Beans
01:25
You can’t get “too much” folate from foods you eat but it’s different if you are taking supplements…. you should not get more than 1,000 micrograms of folic acid a day, unless it is directly prescribed by your doctor! Too much folic acid can hide some signs that you lack vitamin B12 and that can cause nerve damage, it may speed age-related mental decline, slow brain development in children and apparently can connect to autism in children. (still being researched)

01:33
If you are deficient in Folic Acid: It can lead to anemia and can even increase your risk of heart disease! Luckily most cases of this type of anemia can be easily treated! If a long period of time goes by without folate you may find it harder to get pregnant and your risk of getting some types of cancer increases.
01:38
Dont you worry!! I will design a treatment plan for you. And even offer you supplements! How are you feeling now?
01:46
I feel much better, thanks to you doctor!
01:51
Today Jimmy is now the C.E.O of 5 companies! The FOLIC ACID supplements really changed his life now that he learnt all about it!
