HAMILTON POLITICAL PARTY PROJECT
00:05
Alexander Hamilton was a founding father of the United states. He fought in the revolutionary war along with helping draft the constitution and founded the American financial system. He was a strong supporter of the federalist party. He even appeared on the 10 dollar bill!

The federalist party called for a strong central government giving state governments very limited to no power. They adopted a strong relationship with Great Britain in opposition to the revolutionary war. They believed in things like centralization, industrialization, economic growth, and indirect election of government officials.

Washington chose both Hamilton and Jefferson to be his advisors purely for the competing beliefs. The constitution did not provide for a body of these perspectives. These opposing positions were beneficial to Washington's presidency as they both specialized in different parts of government. They both represented different political parties which he didn't want in our nation.
00:36
Washington did not favor the idea of political parties as he believed that constant disagreement and arguing between the parties will weaken the government. In his farewell address he says that parties ``serves always to distract the public councils and unfeeble the public It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and I nsurrection.”

A group the federalist party can be compared to is the republican party. Both focused on the ideals brought from the American revolution. They just disagreed on how to go about it. Federalist believed in a strict interpretation of the constitution while republicans believed in a loose interpretation. This meant federalists favored a strong central government while republicans favored strong state rights.
