Hamilton - Federalist

Federalists favored weaker state governments and a stronger central government. They also favored representative over direct democracy and the indirect election of government officials.
00:10
George Washington most likely chose both Hamilton and  Jefferson as his advisors because having differences of  opinion is a good thing, especially in a democracy.
00:15
Washington didn't want political parties in the nation because he thought they would obstruct the execution of laws created by the government and prevent the branches from exercising the powers given to them by the constitution.
00:20
The federalist party is not like either the democratic or the  republican party today. Both of the current parties are descendants of  Jefferson's democrat republican party. This is why the states have strong laws in our nation today and the federal government isn't all powerful.
00:25
Political parties were part of the cause of the civil war. The south wanted more state rights mainly for slavery while the federal government wasn't allowing it. Both of the parties today seem to agree that the nation needs stricter gun laws. And the political parties divided the nation when they first split into republicans and democrats in the mid 1800's.
