Hello! I’m Mrs. Lecakes, your friendly School Counselor! I was thinking about you today.
I was wondering if you know about MINDFULNESS.
Think about this……..
Last time you were outside did you
Notice that you saw something?
Or notice that you heard something?
Or notice that you smelled something?
How Did you feel about it?
That's what mindfulness is: Using your senses To see or hear or smell something and being aware of how you feel about...
How you are
Where you are
Who you are
You might be asking: Why is this important For me??
Since the beginning of time……..
People have just known how to keep themselves alive and well
We find shelter, heat, friends, and things that make us happy….
….And we find food and water!
Sometimes that puts us into DANGER!
Hey, Guys!! Their fire is out!! Let’s go!!
It’s in those dangerous situations that mindfulness comes in handy and helps to protect us.
I hear something outside and it’s making me a little scared!!
I smell something, too!! It reminds me of BEAR!! I’ll get my BB gun!
Just imagine what would have happened here if they were not mindful of where they were or how they felt about it!
Now, I know we don’t find ourselves in the same place as bears these days…..
….So how do we protect ourselves NOW by using mindfulness?
This one is an easy one....even little kids know to be mindful crossing the street
So lets try one That's a bit harder to remembEr....
I have homework......
.... But I can't believe she just said that!!
I have to tell him before he sees that snap!!
what does this have to do with keeping me safe????
Safety = Security When you know the answers to your test you feel secure... and unafraid to take that test!
It's up to you to stay mindful.... present... when you have work to do.
This keeps you safe from those dreaded F's....and the fear of telling your parents!
So....Mindfulness, or being aware of where, who, and how you are, keeps you in a place where you can respond to what is around you and stay safe, secure, and healthy.
