My name is Tara. I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. I love my hometown!

I also spend a great deal of time in San Diego, CA with my
Rotary Club and in Mexico where I do a lot of service projects such
as helping to build homes for the poor, working with the kids with the
Thousand Smiles Foundation, and rescuing animals.

I also enjoy the scenery and amazing food!

I love learning and I love teaching. I’ve always loved the idea of
becoming the kind of teacher that makes kids excited about going to
school every day. I want to instill in them a passion for learning about
the world around them. I want to help my students discover their
strengths and find what makes each of them unique. I want to be a
role model and inspire them to be the best they can be and to go
after their dreams.

I hope to learn all I can about technologies I currently might not even
know exist and that can be useful in the classroom. I am much more
interested in technologies that encourage learning as opposed to
any that are primarily created for social interaction. I do not however
like having to handle a large number of applications for one task. I
think a lot of times with technology, things are created to make
life simpler, but in the end really just make things more complicated
and time consuming!

Since I was born after 1980, I am technically a digital native.
However, computer use at schools was minimal until high school,
and I didn’t have my own computer at home until my senior year. I
didn’t have a cell phone until a few years after I graduated.
(My first light up Nokia phone was awesome!)

I am excited to get closer to finishing my degree and becoming a teacher!
Here’s to a great semester and a new experience at TAMUSA!
