Alexander Hamilton was a part of the Federalist Party.
00:05
This party often consisted of bankers and businessmen
00:06
This party believed in having a strong central government, a  national bank and having a representatives over a democracy
00:14
George Washington picked both Hamilton and Jefferson to be his advisors.
00:15
-Hamilton shared Washington's vision of America's growth and  development.
00:15
- Both men were brilliant and treated Washington with intellectual Condescension.
00:15
- Having advisors with different beliefs allows for a better outcome for the  country's growth and development
00:20
Washington believed political parties would negatively effect the country
00:21
They would prevent the 3 branches of government from exercising their powers.
00:22
The existence of political parties may seek to obstruct the execution of laws created by the government.
00:23
In Washington's farewell address he stated that political parties will distract the public councils
00:30
The Federalist Party most closely relates to todays Republican Party. - both parties set out to protect the rights of citizens and are opposed to monarchy
00:31
the differences of the two parties is that the federalists believed the wealthy elite should be in control and the republicans believe that ordinary citizens should be in control.
00:32
the original political parties helped set precedents and examples for how the nation should be run and what is best for the nation to have the most growth and development.
00:38
political parties have divided the country more than it has brought it together - in 1865, the North and South had opposing political views which caused a tension forcing them to go to war (The civil war) this war caused the south to secede from the union - a modern day example is the opposition of gun control laws. the Republican Party believes there should be lenient gun control laws and the democratic party believes there should be stricter gun control laws. this has been causing issues across the country - slavery was a long running issue in this country. Republicans believed in white supremacy and believed slavery was justified where as the Democrats believed because slavery stripped citizens of their civil liberties, it should be outlawed.
