7.4% of S2 and S4 pupils said they usually drank alcohol about once a week or more. The prevalence of usually drinking alcohol at least once a week is higher for S4 pupils than for S2 pupils.

Of the 7,589 S4 pupils who provided a response, less than 1 in 10 of them said they have ever taken illegal drugs, of which nearly 20% say they take currently take drugs once a week or more. By far the most common drug taken in the last month was Cannabis, with nearly all S4 pupils who had taken drugs in the last month reporting using this in the last year
