Hamilton and Jefferson both had very different views on the way the US should be governed. Washington appointed them because it would help with his presidency because if there is more than one view point on the government it would help with his popularity because he would apple to most americans. Washington did not want political parties because he thought it would divide and destroy the country.

Hamilton is a federalist, the federalist party main purpose was to have strong centralized government, a new constitution. They also wanted a  national bank, tariffs and good relations great britian. They favored  centralization, federalism and modernization.

There are many differences between the federalist party and the democract-republicans. The federalist wanted a strong national government while the democract-republicans wanted strong state governments. Jefferson wanted strong state governments to  protect civil rights and feared that the national government would  abuse their power.

The 2 partys had many differences in their goals but some were similar. The federalist party wanted to stay nuetral when european countries go  to war and to have the nuertality. The republican-democract party's goals about war is considered aggressive and other countries look down at it.
