A story of an African- American woman
and her legacy
that lived long after her demise
Henrietta had five kids.Though
most thought she had four
kids because many did not
know about her daughter Elsie.
Henriettas five kids are stated from oldes to youngest
David Lacks Jr
Lawrence was Henriettas first born, he was born when Henrietta
was just 14 years old. After Henrietta died Lawrence was drafted
into the milirary even though he was only 16. He returened in
1953. Then in 1959 lawrence moved in with his girlfriend
Bobbet cooper. Later after finding out what lawrences siblings
were being put through by Ethel, Bobbet demanded Lawrences
siblings move in with them, and they did their best to raise
them and set them straight
Many people did not know Elsie even existed.
This is most likely because elsie was institutionalized
due to epilepsy and died at the age fifteen. She had been
commited to Crownsville Hospital for elleged cerebral palsy,
epilepsy, and "diagnosed idiocy"
David Lacks Jr
David was better known as "Sonny". He is the third of
Henriettas five children she had before she died in 1951. He was
Skloots first really solid contact, in the beggining of her jeaurney
trying to tell Henriettas story .
Deborah was the fourth child of Day and
Henrietta. Deborah spent most of her early life
wondering what happen to her mother and
worring about what her mothers cancer meant for
her own life. Deborah played a big part in this
book. From her insight on Henriettas family and what they've
gone through with henriettas death,to her passion in figureing
out what happen to her mother. Overall Deborah is a big part
of this book
Zakariyya is the fifth and last of Henriettas children. Zakariyya
was growing in Henriettas womb while her cancer was growing
alongside him . After his mothers death he also nearly died of
tuberculosis.Zakariayya was a very aggressive person he had a
lot of anger issues and even kills a man and goes to jail for it.
Many believe the reason hes so aggresvie is from growing
alongside Henrieattas cancer cells .
Overall the Lacks children have gone through so much. I fell
the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks portrays what
they've gone through very well. I think one of my favorite parts
is how the book shows eery aspect from each of Henriettas
children, alone with the
