Preventing Sexual Harassment in School
00:00
Mr. Slobodow
00:04
Sexual harassment is behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances in workplace, schools or other professional or social situations
00:05
What is sexual harassment?
00:10
"Conduct" is NOT sexual harassment if it is welcome. Therefore, it is important to communicate, in writing or verbally, to the harasser that the conduct makes you uncomfortable.
00:14
Verbal/written: Comments about clothing, personal behavior, or a person's body;  Sexual or sex-based jokes; requesting  sexual favors, or repeatedly asking  someone out; sexual innuendoes;  spreading rumors; sending emails, text messages of a sexual nature

Severe or Pervasive
01:11
The conduct of the harasser must be either severe or pervasive to be considered harassing
01:16
Although a single unwanted request for a date or  one sexually inappropriate comment might offend  you or be inappropriate, it may not be sexual harassment. However, a number of relatively minor separate incidents may add up to sexual  harassment if the incidents affect your work or  work environment
01:31
It may be sexual harassment if the conduct unreasonably  interferes with your work performance or creates an  "intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment."
01:31
Is this Sexual Harassment?
01:46
Verbal, physical, or visual forms or harassment, that are sexual in nature,  "sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive" and unwelcome fall under            the category of Hostile Environment Sexual Harassment
01:55
A single, severe incident, such as a sexual  assault, could create a hostile environment. More commonly, a "hostile environment" is created by a series of incidents.
