Sneaky Bills in Congress
00:06
During this time of pandemic within the U.S, it hasslipped under the radar of many people, that congress is trying to use this time to pass sneaky bills, such as a bill designed to get rid of end-to-end encryption on devices. The main reasonthis is a massive social injustice is because ofwhat will happen if the bill manages to pass.Should this bill pass, it will become legal forcompanies, our government, as well as corporations to legally have access to privateonline info.
00:35
This issue is centred around the Americanpeople and congress. The creation of this bill was originallyreported by NBC News, though not manypeople saw it.This bill, which is called the "EARN IT" act, was created by Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Although NBC News reported it first, it was actuallya meme created by a user on Redditwhich brought light to this issue. The main obstacle that stands in the wayis that the people have no say or vote over this bill.Hundreds of thousands of people oppose this bill, for the simple reason of having online privacy protected.

Success in our case is if this bill is denied and never makes it through congress. This can only be achieved is if at least 2/3rdsof congress votes against this bill, causing itto die in the house. The actual time in which success will bewhen the bill is denied. The likelihood of this bill being denied is very high due tothe amount of privacy it abolishes if passed.

In Conclusion...
01:50
This is just one of the many social injustices that happen daily in ourgovernment. Should this bill be passed, we will essentially lose all formsof privacy in our online lives, allowing all sorts of nasty people and eventhe owners of the websites we are on to look at and sell our information. While we, the people, can't vote inside of congress to affect the passing of this bill, what we can do, is help influence the decisions of Congress.Educate yourself on the issue and bring your conclusions to the representatives of your state, who in turn can hire lobbyists to attempt topersuade Congress against this bill. Take time out of your day to alsospread the word about this sneaky bill trying to be passed. Don't letthis kind of bill pass.
