Understanding Your Brain

Research
00:14
Not so long ago, scientists discovered that the brain did not change after childhood. They discovered that it was hard-wired and fixed by the time we became adults.

Your brain is like steel.

Neurostability
00:23
Only recent advances in the last decade now tell us that this is true. The brain can’t, and doesn’t change throughout our lives. Instead, it is stable. Neuroscientists call this 'neurostability.’ How does neurostability work?
00:32
If you think of your brain as connected power grid, there are billions of pathways, or roads, lighting up every time you think, feel or do something. As we age, these roads become well-travelled. These make up our abilities, habits, and beliefs. Every time we think a certain way, we use the same 'road' in our brain.
00:43
When we are adults, our brains travel these pathways automatically. Say we try to think differently or learn a new task. We discover that it is difficult and this is because our brains have already established pathways. The process of wiring your brain has already been completed, and this is neurostability in action.
00:53
If you have ever tried to change a bad habit and were unsuccessful or had someone challenge your beliefs, the existing pathways in your brain are responsible for this.

The good news is you can focus on your innate abilities. We all have talents. What are yours?
